        英文中如果用了否定词not，在一定程度上会削弱表达的力度，因为读者一般喜欢直接获取明确的信息。

         如果要用否定句式的话，考虑一下除了not是否还有更好的词
         Negative words other than not are usually strong.

         比如never:

         Her loveliness I never knew / Until she smiled on me.

         would, should （可以表示可能的意思*）, could, may, might, and can这些助动词会增加表达的不确定性，除非确实要表达不确定性，否则尽量少用。（* You use should when you are saying that something is probably the case or will probably happen in the way you are describing.（柯林斯英汉双解大词典））

         Applicants will make a good impression if they are neat and punctual.

         不如写成
